LP2985: New or legacy?

Hi support team all.

I have received an inquiry from my customer.

The inquiry relates to PCNs issued in December 2022 and September 2023.

・Is LP2985-50DBVR (Richardson production in 2024) a legacy spec in the latest data sheet? Or is it "new chip" specs?

・If the latest data sheet states "New chip", only products with "M3" at the end of the product code are eligible. Is this a correct understanding?

Hey Higa,

Thank you for your question and apologies for confusion here. The LP2985-50DBVR orderable part number could either be "legacy" or "new" material, depending on the order date and a couple other aspects. The LP2985-50DBVRM3 is ONLY "new" material. If you currently have LP2985-50DBVR and need to know which specifications you need simplest way is to check CSO, if the CSO: RFB then this is "new" material, anything else denotes "legacy" material.

What is CSO?
The packaging label delivered to the customer said RFAB, so it is an RFAB product.
I have an additional question: what is the initial accuracy of the "new chip" LP2985-50DBVR?
As I understand it, "LP2985-50DBVRM3" has an initial accuracy of 0.5%.
Is this correct?
For products without the "M3" in their names, the initial accuracy is not listed in the datasheet.

Hello Higa-san,

My apologies for my previous lack of clarification. CSO means country of origin, ASO means assembly of origin (meaning where the device was tested and packaged). The "new chip" LP2985-50DBVR has a +/- 0.5% accuracy, this is the same as the LP2985-50DBVRM3 on all specifications. You are correct.

I understand that the LP2985-50DBVR is exactly the same as the LP2985-50DBVRM3, but why are there two different model numbers when both are currently produced by RFAB?

We are very confused as we cannot determine what the delivered product is.

Hello Higa-san,

The M3 version was meant during the time period of the PCN for customer to use and sample the new silicon. Yes, there are now two different part numbers that could both be referring to the "new" chip.
