BQ25731: MOSFETs protection

Hello, Texas Instruments team!

The BQ2573x Evaluation Module (Rev. A) datasheet on page 19 shows a schematic where

MOSFETs Q1, Q2, Q3 and Q4 do not have gate-to-source overvoltage protection.

Can you please tell me if this protection is needed and if it is possible to use an 18V

zener diode from gate to source for all four transistors?

    Hi, Suslik,

    The zener diode is unnecessary. Our gate drive is derived from 6V internal LDO. We never see any gate voltage spike as high as 18V. 

    We have been operating the charger without Zener clamp. No incident is reported so far.
