UCC21530-Q1: Weather this IC is capable for 800-1200V and 400A system?

Part Number: UCC21530-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC21520-Q1

Tool/software:

Hi sir,

I am designing a BLDC motor controller. I have few doubts on gate driver design. The system specification is 800-1200V and 400 A.

1. UCC21530-Q1 is this part can be withstand the requirement or not? How to know the selected gate driver IC can capable to drive the specified system requirement (800- 1200V)?

2. I want to simulate the driver circuit designed for better under standing. What software is helpful to simulate the system?

3. It will helpful if u provide any other reference design for gate driver.

Thank you.

  • Hi Sravan,

Thank you for reaching out with these questions.

    1. UCC21530-Q1 is this part can be withstand the requirement or not? How to know the selected gate driver IC can capable to drive the specified system requirement (800- 1200V)?

In the DWK package, the channel-to-channel isolation voltage is 1850V between channel A and channel B.

Additionally, the device has a DC maximum working voltage of 2121Vdc.

The bottleneck would be the channel-to-channel isolation voltage of 1850V, which if the system conditions are within this spec with added margin, there should not be issues with the gate driver.

    2. I want to simulate the driver circuit designed for better under standing. What software is helpful to simulate the system?

For simulation, it is recommended to use PSPICE since we provide the models for the driver:

    3. It will helpful if u provide any other reference design for gate driver.

Here are the reference designs using UCC21530-Q1:

An additional reference design using UCC21520-Q1 (same part but with DISABLE pin):
