PTN78020W: PTN78020WAH

Part Number: PTN78020W
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PTN78020H

Tool/software:

I am developing a system with this DC/DC, I have some questions, I am using the recommended capacitor in the datasheet, the output I am driving is 12V, but this specific capacitor (TPSE107M020R0200) said V0 <10V, but this capacitor has a nominal voltage rating of 20V, what does that mean?

Output BUS quantity ≤ 3, which means I have to accommodate 3 capacitor in series on the output?

  • Hi James,

It is generally recommended to use capacitors with higher voltage rating to take the DC bias effect into account.

Note that he PTN78020W can have on the output bus, a total of 300µF of ceramic capacitors to meet both minimum/maximum output capacitance requirements. To prevent formation of local resonances, it is NOT recommended to have more than three identical capacitor values of 10uF or greater in parallel on the output bus.

Output BUS quantity ≤ 3 means you can have maximum three capacitors in parallel on the output bus.

  • thanks for the reply.
but that's the point, in the datasheet of this IC, it says that for the capacitor ( TPSE107M020R0200) you must add at least 3 of this capacitor, my point is, can I add the capacitors in parallel, but I don't know the effect of doing that, or just put three of them to ensure the 300uF at the output.

  • Hi James,

    in response of your query:

    •  the datasheet of this IC, it says that for the capacitor (TPSE107M020R0200) you must add at least 3 of this capacitors, .......

Note that the datasheet says you can add maximum (NOT at least) TPSE107M020R0200 capacitors in parallel on output bus.

As I have stated, PTN78020W can have on the output bus, a total of 300µF of ceramic capacitors to meet both minimum/maximum output capacitance requirements. The recommended number of capacitors required at both the input and output buses are identified for each capacitor type in the given Table. For more understanding, please go through the datasheet section "PTN78020W/PTN78020H Output Capacitor" in details.
