TPS7A03: TPS7A03

Part Number: TPS7A03

Tool/software:

Hello,

Can you tell me, is it allowed to reverse bias the TPS7A03 regulator, such that there will be 3.3V on its output, and 0V on its input?

1) will this damage the part

2) if not, what is the max. current that can flow?

thanks,

Stu DeJonge

  • Hey Stu,

    No, it is not allowed, those conditions violate the absolute maximum ratings and can permanently damage the part. If this reverse-bias can ever occur in the system, you must add an external blocking element

    Recommended Mitigations

    •  You only need to protect against accidental back-powering;
      • Put a Schottky diode in series with the output
    • Application must support pre-bias startup;
      • Select an LDO with integrated reverse-current blocking

    Hope this helps,
