[FAQ] BQ27Z758: What FW should I use on the BQ27Z758?

Part Number: BQ27Z758
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ27Z746, , BQSTUDIO

Tool/software:

The BQ27Z758 battery fuel gauge runs using the exact same firmware (FW) as the BQ27Z746/BQ27Z746-R1.

It is recommended to download and program the latest FW version available on ti.com to ensure you have the most up-to-date functionality. The most up-to-date FW for the BQ27Z758 can be found on the BQ27Z746 product page, under the "Software Development" tab.

You can then program the .srec file associated with the downloaded FW onto the gauge using BQStudio.

It is important to note that for BQStudio to auto detect the gauge you are using, you must add the associated .bqz file to the "config" folder of your BQStudio download.

Once you have programmed the FW onto the gauge, you will notice that BQStudio auto detects the BQ27Z758 IC as being the BQ27Z746 IC. This is simply because both the BQ27Z758 and the BQ27Z746 use the same FW, thus they are auto detected as the same device. If you wish to change this, you can go back to the config folder for the BQStudio download you are using and locate the .bqz file associated with the FW you are using. You can then change the name of the .bqz file to something more representative of the IC you are using (i.e. you can change the .bqz file name to be "1746_1_05-bq27z746R1_bq27z758.bqz"), this way when BQStudio detects this particular FW, the device name will populate as "bq27z746R1_bq27z758"
