BQ77915: BQ77915 CHG MOSFET Protection Confusion

Part Number: BQ77915

Tool/software:

Hello everyone,

I’m new to working with Battery Management Systems and currently focusing on the BQ77915 IC for my initial projects.

Apologies in advance for the beginner-level question.

As far as I understand, a Zener diode stabilizes the voltage when its cathode is at a higher potential than its anode (i.e., reverse biased). However, when the CHG driver is off, CHG is pulled to VSS, so how does the Zener diode still protect the VGS of the CHG MOSFET?

I'm having trouble understanding how the protection circuitry for the CHG MOSFET works.
Any clarification would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!
