TPS51200EVM: Connecting E-Load

Part Number: TPS51200EVM

Tool/software:

Hi team,

  1. Is it allowed to connect E-load to TPS51200EVM?
  2. The VTTREF load is listed as a maximum of 10 mA, but the datasheet says min.10 mA | typ. 40 mA, and the upper limit is not specified in 4.1.3.
Is it OK to input up to 0.5W/0 .6V = 842mA for evaluation?
Also, is it correct that 0.5 W is just a limitation of the EVM?

Best regards,

Kazuki Itoh

  • Hi Itoh-san,

Since the typical current limit for REFOUT is 40mA,  I would be surprised if the upper limit went as high as 842mA but it doesn't look like we tested the current limit to the failure point for the datasheet. Just keep in mind that the current limit may be as low as 10mA minimum so 40mA might already overload the output.

I haven't tried loading the REFOUT with an e-load but I wouldn't expect that to be a problem.

The 0.5W seems to just be a recommendation for the load resistance and not a hard limit of the EVM.

    Regards,

    James
