TPS63901: Quiescent current into VOUT

Part Number: TPS63901
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS631010, , TPS63900

Tool/software:

Hi support team,

I'd like to compare the TPS63901 and TPS631010 to see which has lower power consumption.

The TPS63901 does not have a definition for "Quiescent current into VOUT" like the TPS631010.
Is it zero?

Regards,
Dice-K

  • Hi  Dice,

There is some current into Vout, just not applied in the EC table. This current is 75nA typically.

Anyway, TPS63901's quiescent current is much lower than TPS631010, which means lower power consumption in standby operation and when load is really light.

    Tao

  • Hi Tao,
    Thank you for your reply.

In summary, is the typical quiescent current as shown below?

    TPS63901
    Into VIN: 0.075μA
    Into VOUT: 0.075μA
    Total: 0.15μA

    TPS631010
    Into VIN: 0.15μA
    Into VOUT: 8μA
    Total: 8.15μA

Does this mean that the TPS631010 is 54 times higher?

    Best regards,
    Dice-K

  • Hi  Dice,

    Yes,  you are correct.

  • Hi Tao,
    Thank you for your support.

The "quiescent current into VOUT" of the TPS63901 is typically 75nA, but what are the VIN and VOUT conditions?

    VI = 3.0 V, VO = 2.5 V?

Do you have any data for boosting?

Also, why is this specification not listed in the data sheet?

    Best regards,
    Dice-K

  • Hi  Dice,

    About conditions, yes,you are correct.

I do not know why it is not listed. let me check internal first.

    Regards

    Tao

  • Hi Tao,
    Thank you for your support.

I saw this in a thread on TPS631010.

If the ratios of IQ_into_VIN and IQ_into_VOUT change whether VIN > VOUT or VIN < VOUT are used, it seems impossible to compare IQs unless the IQ for VIN > VOUT and the IQ for VIN < VOUT are listed in the data sheet.

Is it possible to list both the IQ for VIN > VOUT and the IQ for VIN < VOUT on the data sheet?

    Best regards,
    Dice-K

  • Hi Tao,

Have you found any internal reasons why IQ_into_VOUT is not listed?
If not, please let me know if you plan to include it in the future.

    Best regards,
    Dice-K

  • Hi  Dice,

TPS63901’s EC table is just following TPS63900's. Unfortunatly, we forgot why this spec is not listed, it is developed 5years ago.

For now, we do not have plan to update our datasheet, sorry for that.

For IQ listed both for condition Vin>Vout and Vin<Vout, from my understanding, it is resonable to list both but not necessary, because when there is no switching, only concumption of device are blocks internal, no matter Vin is higher or not, consumption is almost same.Hope my reply answer your questions

    Regards

    Tao

  • Hi Tao,
    Thank you for your reply.

    Is the calculation below correct?

Quiescent current into VIN (3.0V): 0.075μA
    Quiescent power (VIN): 3.0V × 0.075μA = 0.225μW

Quiescent current into VOUT (2.5V): 0.075μA
    Quiescent power (VOUT): 2.5V × 0.075μA = 0.1875μW

    Quiescent power (Total): 0.225μW + 0.1875μW = 0.4125μW

Can the total of 0.4125μW be considered roughly constant regardless of the VIN and VOUT values?

If the above is correct, I would like to know whether this applies not only to the TPS63901 but also to the TPS631010.

    Best regards,
    Dice-K

  • Hi  Dice,

Yes, i think you are correct and also same calculation menthod can be applied to TPS631010.

    Regards

    Tao

  • Hi Tao,
Thank you for your reply regarding the calculation.

I have understood that it is unclear why the IQ_into_VOUT of the TPS63901 is not listed in the data sheet.
Since the TPS63901 is a device that boasts low IQ, I think it would be appropriate to list it if the IQ_into_VOUT of 75nA is certain and not zero.

    Best regards,
    Dice-K

  • Hi  Dice,

Yes, i think you are correct, i am not sure what happened, may be some other story that i do not know.

Thanks for your suggestion, well noted.

    Regards
