LP2981-N: Voltage regulator new IC revision, sourcing and equivalent part numbers

Part Number: LP2981-N
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LP2981

Tool/software:

Hi

We have been using the following part for +10 years in one of our products and have recently come to learn that a new revision of the IC is going to replace the original part that we had sourced since before the merger between National Semi and TI.

 LP2981AIM5-5.0

I understand that the MPN for this part is not due to change with the new revision of the IC and for a period of time the legacy IC and the New IC may be sourced under this MPN number.

The question that I have is, are the following two part numbers the same product for the new IC going forward?

 LP2981AIM5-5.0 (from the LP2981-N datasheet)

&

LP2981A-50DBVR (From the LP2981 datasheet)

Can we be guaranteed that we will only be sourced new IC revisions from now on and is there a way to specify this in the ordering code?

Much appreciated

Kind regards

Noel
