BQ25820: BQ25820 and BQ25820EVM- BATFET control

Part Number: BQ25820

Tool/software:

Hi,

Can you please explain the usage and the difference of the:

FORCE_BATFET_O FF ( REG0x19_Power_Path_and_Reverse_Mode_Control Register)

and the EN_BATFET_IDEAL _DIODE

and the relation between both

In general and in the EVM, can I independently control the ACDRV (ext. input MOSFET drive) and the BATDRV (Battery MOSFET driver)?

I would like to get to the following state:

Vin exist, charge disabled, and the battery isn't automatically (meaning option to turn it off) powered the system load

  • Hello Shachar,

    and the EN_BATFET_IDEAL _DIODE

When the device transitions into battery-only mode, the BATFET turns on with ideal diode control (if EN_BATFET_IDEAL_DIODE = 1) to prevent reverse current flowing into the battery if the system is higher than the battery voltage. The BATFET gate is regulated with a higher voltage to reduce RDSON until the BATFET is in full conduction. At this point onwards, the BATFET VDS linearly increases with discharge current. When ideal diode mode is disabled (EN_BATFET_IDEAL_DIODE = 0), the device turns on the BATFET gate with IBATDRV_REG. This provides a quick turn-on transition for the BATFET. Ideal diode mode also consumes higher quiescent current from the battery while the loop is in regulation.

    FORCE_BATFET_O FF ( REG0x19_Power_Path_and_Reverse_Mode_Control Register)

This will turn the BATFET off when operating in battery only mode.

Vin exist, charge disabled, and the battery isn't automatically (meaning option to turn it off) powered the system load

This should be possible, if you use an external driver for ACFET.

    Best Regards,

    Christian.
