TPS65735: Can I use two of them in parallel?

Part Number: TPS65735

Tool/software:

Hello all,

I have a design which has to drive four LC shutters, powered by a single battery.

TPS65735 fits well for that, except that I need four H-bridges. So I want to use one TPS65735 for power/battery management, boost converter, and two H-bridges. From the second TPS65735 I only want to use the H-bridges. I see two ways to achieve this:

1. On the second TPS65735, power the H-bridges through the BST-out pin and leave the rest of the IC unconnected

2. Connect the battery to both TPS65735, thereby using the boost converter on the second one, but leaving battery management on the first.

Is one of these ways feasible, or is there another possibility?

Thanks,

Matt

  • Hi Matt,

Thank you for reaching out on E2E.

Please be aware that TPS65735 is one of our older devices, so support may be limited.
And this particular application with multiple TPS65735's has not been tested.

For the first option, I would be wary about BST_EN being low, which may cause the H-bridges to remain in the OFF state.
When the boost is disabled (BST_EN = LOW), the H-bridge is automatically placed into the OFF state
I would advise enabling the boost converter to avoid this issue.

For the second option, I think this is a more feasible possibility, as disabling the charger and other features can be easily done.

Let me know your thoughts and any feedback you may have.

    Best Regards,
    Sarah
