Hi,

I’m working on designing an SMPS using the UC3842 IC.
My topology is a conventional flyback converter without any special techniques.

However, my input voltage range is from 200V to 1000V, and my output specification is 30W at 24V. My target efficiency is 90%.
I realize that the maximum input voltage is a bit high. I have looked for other controllers that can handle these requirements, but I haven’t found any, so I have to use this IC.

I would like to know if it’s possible to use this IC with my input specifications.
Additionally, I need over-voltage protection on the input and over-current protection on the output.

Could you please recommend how to implement these protection features?

I suggest you use UCC28C56H. We have an EVM UCC28C56EVM-066 that is very close to your specs so it can help your design.

But I want to know that the possibility of design my SMPS with UC3842.

If it's not, then I would change IC.

Hi,

If you can make sure SiC MOSFET Vgs is correct from UC3842 then it is ok to use. I think you need to add external UVLO on/off circuit to help this. So it is better to use UCC28C56H unless you think ok to add external circuit to make sure UVLO on/off ok to adapt SiC MOSFET.
