TPSM63602: TPSM63602 output range

Part Number: TPSM63602
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPSM63603, , LMZM33604, LMZ14202H, TPSM65620

Tool/software:

Hi Team,

My customer want to use TPSM63603 for36V input  20V/2A output. If thermal is not a challenge, what stop us using TPSM63602 for 20V output?

  • Why it can only support up to 16V?
  • Any possibility to use it for 36V to 20V/2A application? 20~28V input 17V/2A output application?

Thanks.

BR

Victor

  • Hi Victor,

The output voltage limitation would mostly be because of the inductor. Since the inductor value is fixed, as VOUT increases the associated current ripple and slope would also increase. This might lead to the pat hitting current limit or having issues with slope compensation. I wouldn't recommend using it for output voltages greater than 16V.

You can have a look at LMZ14202H/LMZM33604

  • Hi Niranjan,

LMZ14202H/LMZM33604 is much too expansive and not able to compete with MPS 2$

What's the internal converter and what's the value of inductance of TPSM63602?

    BR,

    Victor

  • Hi Victor,

The internal converter seems to be based on LM62440 and the inductance value is 2.2 uH. Using at output voltage above 16V would also violate abs-max and cause some reliability issues.

There is also an upcoming module TPSM65620 which is 24V output/2A which you can look into, might be cheaper.

    Niranjan
