TPS54061: Please recommend how much resistor of value can put on the Vin pin for limit current and rush voltage

Hi Expert,

Could you please loop your team to help to comment this application ?

My customer Chicony Power take TPS54061 in their PC desktop PSU by bais power stage.

They find the IC VIN pin will have rush high voltage up to 67V in some condition.

So they want to put a resistor on the VIN pin to reduce this situation.

Do you have recommend resistor of value and any official guide or data could help them to convince their end customer (Dell) to approve it ?

Hello Eddi

The Abs Max of TPS54061's VIN is only 62V. The device will be damaged if you apply 67V. Also, the maximum operating input voltage is 60V.

Hi Eric,

Sure we know over voltage abs maximum the IC will damage.

But now my customer want to add resistor on the Vin pin to reduce rush voltage.

Is that TI have any recommend value ? and any guide line may help them to use resistor to avoid issue.

Hello Chao

Unfortunately, TI doesn't guarantee anything outside of the datasheet. You should make it sure that VIN<62V.
