TPS7A4501-SP: Output during over voltage failure

We are evaluating what happens in case of a failure upstream of the regulator where the input could exceed 22V (Absolute voltage limit) up to 32V with the output configured to 3.3V. Is it possible for the high input voltage (>25.3V) to appear at the output?

Hi Warren,

Unfortunately, the answer is "maybe". We do not have data to give a definitive answer on this. I will say, typically failure modes are dependent on the nature of the failure. For example, if this event was high-current the part may be more likely to fail open.

Thanks, I thought perhaps the feedback amp circuitry would break down before the pass circuitry, but could see the "maybe" even in that (feedback amp fails open and leaves pass transistor to fail short).

Fortunately we put in a protection circuit that covers both cases.
