BQ27542EVM: I2C communication issue

Dear TI Engineer,

We have recently encountered a significant proportion of communication issues with our BQ27542DRZR-G1 SMT production (Tested 1300pcs, defective 45pcs, defect rate 3.46%). We tried to connect to BQstudio through EV2300 but failed. We also measured the ground resistance of each pin, and found that the ground resistance of PIN2 (REG25) of the defective product is much lower than the normal product.

The schematic is as below:

Can you give some suggestions for this issue?

Hello,

The low ground resistance on PIN2 (REG25) and communication failures suggest a combination of potential IC damage (possibly from ESD or manufacturing defects) and/or external circuit issues (e.g. solder bridges, faulty capacitors). Start by inspecting the REG25 circuitry, verifying the PCB assembly process, and switching to an EV2400 for communication testing.

I would consider engaging TI for failure analysis process.
