LMR14010A: limit capability with capacitive load

Part Number: LMR14010A

Tool/software:

Hi team,

I have a question about the LMR14010A chip. We want to know the chip's limit capability with capacitive load in a buck circuit (24V to 5V, inductor 100uH). Please help confirm the boundary value, thank you.

Thanks

  • Hello Lillian

There are two limitations for maximum capacitance which IC can support

    1. Device has fixed internal softstart which would put limitation maximum capacitance can be charged without hitting current limit
    2. Devie has internal compensation which restrict max supported capacitance and its ESR for keeping stability margins in check

I would recommend checking WEBECH simulations to arrive at maximum capacitance limit for customer use case. Let me know if face any issue in doing it. I would be happy to help

    Thank you

  • Hi Onkar,

    Thanks for reply.

By the way, can you please confirm the approximate hysteresis voltage of the SHDN pin? The current specification only gives the startup voltage. Or is the hysteresis voltage of this pin determined by the external pull-down resistor, and the hysteresis current in the specification × the pull-down resistor value of this pin is the hysteresis voltage of this pin?

    Thanks

  • Hi Lillian

you are absolutely correct; hysteresis voltage has to be determined from hysteresis current and EN resistor ladder used.

    Thank you
