LM706A0QEVM: High temperature of L3 on the EVM

Part Number: LM706A0QEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM706A0

Tool/software:

Hello

My costumer is testing the EVM of the LM706A0 and they see the following issue:

Modification of the EVM kit:
R11, R15, and R18 = Chip_Open
R17 = 49 KOhm
VOUT = 12 V.

As the critical range for us is 60V input voltage, I checked this first
VIN = 59.731V / 0.600 A.
VOUT = 11,973 V/2.5 A.
Efficiency = 83.52%

After about 3 minutes, L3 had about 110°C on the top of the housing at 25°C ambient temperature.

Is the temperature they are measuring reasonable or is there something wrong in their setup?

They are now thinking of using two stages 60 to 30V and then from 30 to 12V, or something similar. Will this solve their problem?

Can they improve performance by adjusting the switching frequency?

Thank you in advance!
