LP5907: Minimum current requirement for LP5907 ?

Part Number: LP5907

Tool/software:

Dear TI Support Team,

We are using LP5907 LDOs at 3.3V and 1.8V to supply power to individual sensors (one sensor - one LDO) in a vehicle motion unit. Referring to the attached sensor datasheet snippets, the typical operating currents are extremely low depending on the modes. Input to both the 3.3V and 1.8V LDO will be 4.5V-5.0V.

Could you please confirm:

  1. Is there a minimum recommended load current required on the LP5907 (3.3V and 1.8V variants) to ensure proper regulation and stability?

  2. Would the sensor’s load current, which may be as low as ~0.3 mA, be sufficient for stable operation of the LP5907 without adding an artificial load resistor?

  3. If necessary, could you suggest an appropriate minimum load for best performance?

Sensor - IIM-42652 (3.3V)

Sensor - BMM350 (1.8V, Vin for LP5907-1.8 can be sourced from regulator powering ICP-20100)

ICP-20100 (3.3V), IIM-42653(3.3V)

  • Hey En,

    Thank you for your questions,

Minimum Load Requirements: The LP5907 does not require a minimum load to maintain regulation or stability. It is designed to be stable even at very low loads. The sensor current of 0.3mA is well within operating limits to ensure stable regulation without adding an artificial load.

    Thanks,
