BQ76952: Autonomous Balancing in BQ76952

Part Number: BQ76952

Tool/software:

Dear TI Expert,

Autonomous Balancing in BQ76952.

We are design standalone BMS using BQ76952 IC.

While experimentally in found that balancing start only following to conditions decide other conditions are meet.

1. When all the cell voltage threshold are above set minimum cell balancing start voltage threshold.

2. When cell voltage delta is greater than cell voltage starts delta threshold set for balancing.

3. Customer are objecting on point 1 where all the cell voltages must be greater than minimum cell balancing start voltage threshold. There are requirements that even one cell must balance if it has crossed minimum cell balancing start voltage. Our competitor BMS are doing so.

Please suggest what we can done.

Thanks

  • Hello Rahul,

You are correct on both of the cell balancing start conditions.

However, not all cell voltages are required to be above Cell Balance Min Cell V for cell balancing to occur. For example, if a specific cell drops below Cell Balance Min Cell V, then cell balancing will stop for that specific cell, but it may continue for other cells that are above the Cell Balance Min Cell V and are greater than the Cell Balance Min Delta.

Please let me know if I misunderstood your question or something needs to be clarified.

For more details on cell balancing, the Cell Balancing application note may be of use.
