BQ25616: BQ25616J Charging Profile issue - reg

Part Number: BQ25616

Tool/software:

Hi there,

We're using the BQ25616J charger IC in our product to charge a 1S1P 2270 mAh battery at 1.3 A.

As per standard charging behavior, the current typically tapers only after the battery reaches the configured voltage (4.1 V). However, in our case, we’ve observed that the charge current begins to decrease before the voltage reaches 4.1 V.

We're using a 550 Ω ICHG resistor to set 1.3 A charging current. We also tested with 715 Ω for 1 A charging, and the behavior remains similar.

We have tested with the EVM board as well, and observed the same behavior there too.

Attached are the corresponding charge curves for your reference.

Kindly give your suggestions regarding this.

  • Hello,

Where is the voltage being measured? If the device is in CV mode, which it clearly is here, the battery voltage itself will not be 4.1V  due to resistive drops across the cables. This is the purpose of CV mode, to reduce the charge current until the battery voltage matches the BAT pin voltage. Please check the BAT pin voltage on the EVM with the kelvin test point.

    Regards,
