Class 4 mimimum power

Hello,

In the table of Classes and Power of TPS23754 minimum power to PD in Class 4 is 12.95W.

The customer would like to get confirmation that if PD needs less power this also will work.

Pls advise.

    It is my understanding that the IEEE 802.3at only requires  a PD declare its (hardware)  class as its maximum power draw, the minimum is not dictated for any given class. 

    Please refer to the IEEE standard for a definitive answer when making product definition decisions.

    "CLS

    A resistor from CLS to VSS programs the classification current per the IEEE standard. The PD power ranges and corresponding resistor values are listed in Table 1. The power assigned should correspond to the maximum average power drawn by the PD during operation."
