BQ24259: BQ24259 shipping mode fail

Part Number: BQ24259
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24295

Tool/software:

Hi Sir,

We are using the BQ24259 in production and encountered a few units that cannot enter shipping mode. However, we are still able to read the battery gauge’s State of Charge (SOC) via I2C. The I2C bus is shared between the gauge and the charger. We would like to understand under what conditions the charger might fail to successfully enter shipping mode.

  • Hi,

    Could you please provide more details?

    1.What are the charger operating status such as VBUS (voltage at VBUS pin), IVBUS, VBAT (voltage at BAT pin), IBAT, VSYS, ISYS before and after trying to enter shipping mode respectively?

    2. How did you try to enter shipping mode?

    Thanks,

    Ning.

  • Hi Ning,

    Reply as below:

    Thanks.

    1.What are the charger operating status such as VBUS (voltage at VBUS pin), IVBUS, VBAT (voltage at BAT pin), IBAT, VSYS, ISYS before and after trying to enter shipping mode respectively?

    [Alex] Vbus=5V , IBus=1.5A Vbat=3.7V , IBAT= 1.45A  VSYS=4.75V   ISYS=0.26A

    2. How did you try to enter shipping mode?

    [Alex] Send the following commands to the charging IC via the MCU's I2C.

    void en_shipping_mode()

    {

        BQ24295_WRITE_REG(0x05, 0x8c);

        BQ24295_WRITE_REG(0x07, 0x6b);

        g_shipping_flag = 1;

    }

  • Hi,

    After entering shipping mode, what are VBUS, IVBUS, VBAT, IBAT,  VSYS, ISYS?

    Thanks,

    Ning.

  • Hi,

    It has been quite for a while. The thread is considered solved and closed.

    Thanks,

    Ning
