I am trying to determine how external cell balancing behaves from the bq40z50 compared to the bq41z50. The bq40z50 and the bq40z80 both required a PFET for cell 1 when using external cell balancing. It appears there is a difference in how the cells are wired to the AFE between the versions. For the bq40z50 line there is VC1,VC2,VC3, and VC4 connections to the cells. However, for the bq41z50 there is VC0, VC1,VC2,VC3, and VC4 connections to the cells. Does the additional connection VC0 imply that an NFET can be used for cell1 for the bq41z50, or does it require a PFET similar to the bq40zXX line?
