Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ29312A, BQ20Z80
Tool/software:
Hello, we are completing activities to meet the forthcoming ICAO/IATA requirement that Lithium-ion batteries packed with equipment (UN3481) offered for air transport must not be charged greater than 30% of their rated capacity.
We utilize TI’s bq20z80 + bq29312a chip set.
To meet our specified 1yr storage requirement we are utilizing the SLEEP Mode feature.
We initially intended to use Shutdown mode but due to risks associated with ensuring the battery is turned back on before being placed into service we are not pursuing that option.
The battery of concern was developed in the 2010 era with this chip set.
For some reason, the developers felt it necessary to disable SLEEP mode which by TI’s documentation was and still is enabled as the default.
My inquiring is to gain an understanding if issues existed with SLEEP mode back in the 2010 era that would have resulted in the developers intentionally disabling SLEEP mode? Also, are there issues with the current revision of the chip set or firmware that would recommend that SLEEP mode not be used or if used what circumstances do we need to be aware of that could result in inappropriate or errant behavior?
In addition to the above inquiry, I also have a question related to the SLEEP Voltage Time and SLEEP Current Time registers. We are modifying the values to further reduce the current consumption by roughly 25% to meet our 1yr storage requirement. Are there any interactions that we need to be aware of that may not be documented in TI’s documentation? We plan on changing the SLEEP Voltage Time to 10seconds and SLEEP Current Time to 40seconds to garnish an additional reduction of ~25% in current consumption in SLEEP mode.
