BQ25730: Charging method faster than CC/CV

Part Number: BQ25730

Tool/software:

Hello experts,

I had a quick question, is there a IC or charging method that is faster than CC/CV charging for 60W?

My customer was looking for 60W (17.54V 3.4A)  solution so I suggested BQ25730, but they asked if there was a faster charging solution (just a curiosity).

Thank you.

  • Hi Jade,

If you need faster charging, you can simply increase your charging power, for example, 120W can short the time by half. If your power is limited, your charge time is limited, no matter CC/CV profile or other charge profile.

  • Hi Tiger,

Thank you so much for your feedback.

I understand. In this case, customer's input power is limited to 60W, so they want to set charge current as stages.

For example, first start with 10V 6A, then after a certain period do 12V 5A charging, then 15V 4A, and so on.

Is this possible to create with BQ25730? I would assume that customer can do so by changing ChargeVoltage() & ChargeCurrent() registers every time, but is there a way to set these stages in advance, so they will do so automatically?

Thank you for your help and support.

    Best regards,
    Jade

  • Hi, Jade,

The charger itself has input current limit, thus limits the power below 60W. If you set a very high charge current, but the charge can automatically adjust the charge curent without overloading the input source.
