TPS1685EVM: TPS1685EVM Current Draw and TPS16851 Area of Operation

Part Number: TPS1685EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS1685

Tool/software:

Hi,

we're trying to implement the TPS16851 as a means to save our rf test socket from being damaged and are using the TPS1685EVM as a proof of concept.

One of the issues is that the TPS1685EVM draws ~31mA when powered up. For production testing of our parts, we need to bias at a certain current and also need to make uA level leakage measurements.

In application, is it possible to move the circuitry that is drawing the 31mA to a separate Vdd, and then have Vinput solely power our DUT's?.

Also,

Our DUT's operate at 50V and up to 15A for 10-100useconds depending on the pulse used. Is it possible to use a single TPS16851, or would it be necessary to use multiple? We're trying to implement this on a production test board where space is a premium. If there are other options better suited, we are open to suggestions.

Thanks!

  • Hi,

Thanks for choosing TPS1685 for your application.

Yes, you can certainly use separate VDD bias.

TPS1685 is 80V and 20A rated so it can pass 15A pulses easily. Make sure to use iTIMER if you don't want to latch off the eFuse because of over current.

    Thanks
