LM3410: LM3410XMFX/NOPB

Part Number: LM3410

Tool/software:

I am using the LM3410 boost LED driver in my UV LED module and encountered an issue when powering it from a system charger IC.

System setup:

Charger IC: MPS MP2733GQC (NVDC power path charger, Monolithic Power Systems).

Driver IC: LM3410X boost LED driver.

Inductor: AOTA-B252010S100MT (10 µH).

Power source: 5 V adapter.

Battery: single-cell Li-ion.

Issue observed:

When the LM3410 VIN is connected to the MP2733 VSYS pin, the inductor overheats and fails within a few seconds.

Both circuits (MP2733 charger and LM3410 boost LED driver) operate normally when tested independently.

Failure only occurs when the modules are connected in this configuration.

My questions:

Is the LM3410 sensitive to input source impedance or supply regulation behavior (e.g., VSYS of MP2733 is not a raw battery rail but a regulated system output)?

Would you recommend powering LM3410 directly from the battery node (VBATT) instead of VSYS to avoid inductor overstress?

Do you have guidelines or reference designs showing LM3410 driven from a charger’s system rail?

  • It seems MP2733 is a charger controller. Is there other load connected to MP2733 VSYS or just LM3410? Is there battery on BATT pin?  It's expected to have constant voltage @ LM3410 input side.

Can you provide schematic and tested waveform when the LM3410 VIN is connected to the MP2733 VSYS pin? I'd like to see VIN, SW, VOUT and inductor current.

  • Thank you for your quick reply.

As requested, I’ve attached the schematic showing the connection between the MP2733 charger (VSYS output) and the LM3410 LED driver (boost converter for UV LEDs).
At this stage, the LM3410 is the only load connected to the MP2733 VSYS node.
There is also a Li-ion battery connected at the BATT pin.

I will capture and share the requested waveforms shortly — VIN, SW, VOUT, and inductor current — for the case when LM3410 VIN is powered from VSYS.

Please let me know if you need any additional details about operating conditions or load configuration before I send the measurements.

  • Pls kindly update test result and I will see if more details required.
