BQ25190: Minimizing Iq for longer battery life

Part Number: BQ25190

Tool/software:

I am designing a battery-powered device and trying to minimize the BQ25190 Iq. Does the ADC always has to be enabled when the battery is discharging to monitor the battery temperature? My understanding is that enabling the ADC will increase the Iq. Does enabling TS Fault Monitoring in Battery-Only Mode also increase the part Iq, or is that feature separate from enabling the ADC?

  • Hi,

TS Fault Monitoring while in Battery-Only mode will enable the ADC through hardware, even if the ADC_EN bit remains low. This function will increase Iq due to the enabling of the ADC. This increase will be relative to the ADC_RATE, less frequent readings will have smaller impacts on the Iq with continuous readings having the greatest impact.
