BQ2982: BMS Tripping From ESD

Part Number: BQ2982

Hi Experts,

When using BQ298217RUGR for a handheld device, I am seeing that the BMS sometimes shuts down due to an ESD event and does not try to recover despite TVS diodes.

The timing of the shutdown is almost immediate, less than 1usec.  Is there a way to avoid this or to make the BMS recover after an ESD event where both FETs turn off?

I could add a resistor between Cell+ and Vbatt and the FETs turn back on, but that does not seem like a realistic solution.

My question:  what is happening to turn these off and not recover?  Is there an easy change to be made for the BMS to recover after this event?
