CSD95490Q5MC: TPS53681 with CSD95490Q5MC switch node ringing damage

Part Number: CSD95490Q5MC
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS53681

Hi,

We’re using the TPS53681 + 6x CSD95490Q5MC and have had a few boards die where we suspect the power stages are getting damaged due to ringing on the SW node.

The faulty boards appear to have a short on the output, and in one case where we took off the first phase power stage we measured a low resistance ~3R from the SW pins to GND on the CSD95490Q5MC part itself.

Apart from fitting a higher resistance for Rboot, are there any config settings to adjust on the TPS53681 that can help reduce the ringing? I’ve found some improvement from reducing the switching frequency, increasing BLANK_TIME_RISING, and reducing MINTOFF. However the ringing at full load is still very high.

If possible can we continue the conversation over email so that I can share schematics, layout, and measurements.

Thanks.

  • Hi Teng,

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Yes, we can definitely discuss the same over email.

Please send an email to me at abhishek.vishwa27@ti.com, abhed.misra09@ti.com and yihehu@ti.com.

We can discuss the damage in detail and see how to avoid the high ringing.

    Thanks & regards,

    Abhishek
