LMR54410: Thermal resistance, 4-layer vs. 2-layer

Part Number: LMR54410

Dear team,

We are referring the datasheet of LMR54410 and it mentions below.

In genral lower layer PCN should have higher thermal resistance but it mentions opposite.
It is not simple 4-layer vs. 2-layer but JEDEC 4-layer vs. 2-layer, so can you pleae let us know the PCB condition for this result?

Does it mean JEDEC 4-layer PCB is too bad for thermal and normal design 2-layer PCB is much better thermal peformance than it? If so, can you let me know the reference RJA at normal 4-layler PCB?

  • Hello

    We apologize for the confusion.

The comparison highlighted above is between a JEDEC board and a large board, such as one of our EVMs.

The JEDEC board is small and has very little copper for heatsinking.  Our typical EVM uses large ground planes to provide

good thermal performance.  So, the comparison here is between a large and smaller area of PCB.

Typically, a 4 layer board will be slightly better than a two layer.

    Thanks
