TPS65223-Q1: TPS65223Q1 has no output when power off and power on at high temperature 85C

Without the part number, it's hard to make out what the firmware would be doing in this scenario.

Okay, thank you so now I know what part this is, it helps a great deal.

1. Can you tell me the first registers?

1A: You can read this before the failure, this specifies what revision of this part that you have would tell me exactly what the firmware is doing in the case of a shutdown

2. The interrupt registers will be able to tell me more information of what specifically caused the shutdown at 85C, can you provide them after the shutdown with an I2C tool?

0x5A - 0x5D,

0x5F - 0x6A,

0x6C

3. This issue at 85C, is it on every board built or just some?

3A. for example 3 out of 15, or 15 out of 15 boards, we need this information to narrow down the cause to be systematic or random

NOTE: Any power failure on the output rails will cause an orderly power off of the PMIC outputs and a more critical error will immediately power off of the PIMC outputs. Please let me know your observations.

I do some debug works，and find the failure follows the PMIC.

failure board use another new PMIC ，could outputs normally，then reowrk back with the failure PMIC，the board could works normally when temperature rise from30C to 85C，but the same failure，when power down and power on at85C，the PMIC has no output.

Really thank you for details, I assume that the failure has the same failure signature at no rail outputs at ~85C?

I'll wait for the register dump after the power is kept on the PMIC as this will preserve the problem interrupts the units (board &/or IC), so we do not jump to  any conclusions.

Any scope captures that may have been done during testing would be helpful as well, thank you.

Hi Peter,

let me reply so you can move on with this.

• You can use any external debugging tool that supports I2C such as USB2ANY or XDS110, sometimes even the PMIC EVM has been used.
• Please focus on the SOC_I2C1 bus (pins 1 and 2) as they are used for the main registers. The secondary bus at GPIO1 and GPIO2 (pins 35 and 36) are only used for watchdog registers so the 0x4yy registers in the data sheet.
• By first registers the register addresses 0x1, 0x2 and 0x3 are meant as these specify the configuration and its revision which helps greatly in debugging.
• You could basically read all the configuration registers so addresses 0x1-0xF1. If for some reason it is easier to read fewer registers then we are most interested in registers 0x1-0x3 and 0x5A-0x6C (these contain the interrupt/error information).

Seems like these read 0x0 but this shouldn't be correct. Please double check the read access.

You can find the GUI for the EVM here. It is the scalable PMICs GUI and latest release is 5.0.0. You can either install this on your computer or use it in the browser.

here is the other egister values when  PMIC works good， when PMIC don'T output,i can not read register values with USB2ANY.

may i have your mails, it could be convinent. when PMIC fails output，i measure the waveform of I2C withUSB2An,the clock waveform is always 0.7V,no changes when i click read button onUSB2ANy interface.

HI Niko  the pull up supply is from PMIC  SOC_VDDIO_3V3，but when error occurs the PMIC has no output，but i enable the pull up at USB2ANY, I think it also works.

Hi Peter,

one issue I see in the schematic are the buck3 and 4 inductors as they also should be 220nH since this is in 4.4MHz. Yes the pull-ups of the USB2ANY should also work but maybe something is pulling the I2C nets to ground if they only reach 0.7V.
