LM5163-Q1: LM5163‑Q1 Operation at Dropout Input Voltage

Part Number: LM5163-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5163

I am considering using the LM5163‑Q1 in my project. My required output voltage is 18 V, with a normal input range of 22–36 V. In the worst-case condition, the input voltage can drop to 18 V. According to the datasheet, the device can operate with input voltages as low as 6 V, and under such conditions the PWM duty cycle can reach 100%.

To evaluate this, I simulated the circuit in PSpice with an 18 V input and a 400 mA load current. The output voltage was approximately 16.8 V. For my application, this reduced output is acceptable under worst-case conditions. However, I would like to know whether operating in this mode could lead to instability, or if it is considered a non‑recommended operating condition.
