TPS2116: TPS2116 truth table concerns - how to understand the auto/manul mode

Part Number: TPS2116

Hi Madam/Sir,

I have one question regarding TPS2116 power switch MUX.  I'm looking to clarify my understanding of the documentation about the truth table (section 7.3.1 in d/s). I have a very simple circuit with two input power supplies ( 5V from LDO1 and 3.3V from LDO2) feeding VIN1 and VIN2. Both of the supplies are connected at any time. For my use case, I do not care which input voltage is the  primary or secondary. I just want the TPS2116 to switch to whatever 3.3V or 5V is needed with GPIO control (linked to PR1 pin).  Based on the truth table in the documentation, I plan on using the 2rd configuration. But I'm concerned how to connect this MODE pin? Is it tied to external voltage, what is the difference between VIN1 and external voltage for my use case? From my understanding, I think this is "high" or "low" voltage since both VIN1 and exernal votlage are "high" in this configuration. Would you please help me check how to make the "manual mode" work exactly? thanks.

Best regards,

Jay

  • Hi Sir,

Could you please help check this issue?thanks a lot.

    best regards,

    Jay

  • Hi Jay,

The device compares MODE pin voltage to VIN1 internally to decide the mode of operation ( Priority mode when MODE is tied to VIN1 and manual mode when MODE is pulled up to an external voltage)

if you have external voltage source, pull-up the MODE pin to configure in manual mode.

Please get an EVM and try out your system configuration
