TPS25830A-Q1: nPOL output status

Hi team

Based on the description of plug polarity detection, tps25830A-q1 only act as a DFP device, that means that tps25830A-Q1 acts as power source and SA8797 acts as data master when SA8797+TPS25830A-Q1 with type C connector is connected with a PC's typec C connector for updating the framework to DHU from PC. Is it right? In this condition, if SA8797 can act as data slave to receive the update software from PC?

Hi Teb,

You can enable the client mode of TPS25830A for updating from PC. Please refer to section "10.4.5.4 Client Mode" in the datasheet for more details.

Hi Ke

Thanks for your comments. but in client mode, the nPOL function is declared.

This is a type C to type C cable connection case. Customer need that TPS25830A-Q1 takes UFP(device) data role during firmware updating and nPOL pin gives cable orientation information needed to the external USB3 MUX(TX/RX). Can it be done by tps25830A-Q1 in this case?

Hi Ted,

I'm not sure if I fully understand your requirements: Under client mode, since there shouldn't be a UFP connected to the receptacle, so nPOL should be Hi-Z. It should be a given status.

And I think 830A can be UFP in client mode when flashing. As Figure 10-31 shows Rd will be asserted. To me seems 830A can be used in this case.

Based on the description in shared tps2583xA-Q1 client mode solution, in C2C connection case, the CC pins also serve to established an initial power(source to sink) and data (host to device) relationships priror to the normal USB enumeration process.
