Hi,

We have the following questions. Could you please answer them?

*1. Could you please let us know how to confirm current mode, ROM mode or FW mode?
Also, could you please let us know where this is described? We want to know the particular page of TRM/Datasheet.

*2. Could you please let us know how to change ROM mode to FW mode?

We can find the following sentence on bq40z50 TRM (SLUUA43A).

>> To return from ROM mode to FW mode, issue the SMBus command 0x08.

Does this mean MCU write 0x08 on Address 0x0B? Although I think This is fundamental question, please let us know.

Hello Motoyasu,

Sorry for the delay

We normally don't let customers enter in ROM mode. Not sure if they are suppose to know or not, that's why there is no documentation on this.
Anyway, the device should always be in FW mode. If the device already has FW, and they power up the device, it should be in FW mode, and they should not worry

Let me now if they have more concerns.

I see it is in the TRM, so I will give you more info.

The Address of the gauge in FW MODE is most likely 0x16, but you can quickly confirm with bqstudio.
I usually use the Advanced Comm SMB to test this out in BQStudio
- You can send the read word to 0xd, and you will get back a value to see if the device is in ROM mode.
I believe BQStudio also sends a command to enter FW mode after programing the FW. I have a capture of the command sent by bqstudio:
