TPS1H000-Q1: Differentiating Open Load Detection Fault from Overcurrent protection fault

Part Number: TPS1H000-Q1

I have integrated a TPS1H000-Q1 into our product and it works fairly well. In our application we are using it to drive an electronic load prodived by our customers. Since digital electronics can go into standby mode, open load dection isn't really a concern for us.

It would be nice if we could detect an short circuit/ over-current condition while ignoring any light load condition. Is there a way to configure the TPS1H000-Q1, or drop in a pin compatable device that can do this?   Obviously one solution would be to add a 10mA load on our pcb, or sense the output voltage of the TPS1H000-Q1.

  • Hey,

What state is the device in Holding, Latch off, or Auto-retry? Can the output current/voltage be monitored during normal operation? This will be the most identifiable change for short circuit and open load differentiation.

The output will be LOW when there is an overload or short while during the open load the output will be high.

    BR,

    Alan

  • The IC is currently in Auto retry mode. In future versions we could add the ability to sense output voltage by the microcontroller on the same PCB as the TPS1H000.
