Dear Sir or Madam,

I am currently working with Texas Instruments power delivery solutions and am particularly interested in the USB-PD controllers of the TPS2576x-Q1 family, especially the TPS25762-Q1.

On the TPS25762-Q1 product page, the entry “Dataless” is listed under “Data role.” Could you please explain exactly what this means and what practical implications this specification has?

For comparison: The structurally similar TPS25763-Q1 explicitly lists “DRD – Dual Role Data” under “Data role.” What additional data functions does the TPS25763-Q1 offer compared to the TPS25762-Q1.

Hi Jonas,

TPS25763-Q1 was made Dual Role Data for DisplayPort purposes. This can be disregarded.

For the TPS25762-Q1, the device is going to assume PD source role, which by default gives the port the data source role. But the actual USB2.0 data (D+/D-) will not route to the 762-Q1. That's why it's classified as dataless.

Thanks for your reply.

I need a USB-C port that functions as a USB-PD source but still acts as a USB device.
The Ports data lines (USB3 and USB2) should be connected to, e.g. a USB Hub.
However, as you said, the TPS25762-Q1 automatically selects PD source and USB host.
Is there a way to force the port into USB device mode (UFP) anyway?

Hi Jonas,

Understood. TPS25762-Q1 is not currently user configurable to swap to USB device. However, I have submitted a ticket to have this added to our configuration GUI. I expect the feature can be implemented in January.

Hi Eric,

This would be amazing.
Just for clarification. My setup could also be implemented today with the TPS25763-Q1, as it already supports the role swap mechanism?
