TPS61288: Inquiry of allowable current in body diode

Part Number: TPS61288

Hi, TI expert

A customer has asked me what the body diode's allowable current is, to determine the current specification that can flow to the load when the TPS61288 is turned off.

Could you please confirm this?

Thank you.

  • Hi Grady,

It is generally not recommended to allow diodes to flow through the current for long time, there may be a risk of reliability, short transient current is ok, the transient current capability is similar to the current capability of the MOSFET.

  • Hi, Nathan

    Thank you for response.

Then, can I think of the transient as 15A, which is a typical switch peak current limit?

Can I know the normal current value?

    Thank you.

  • Hi Grady,

That's right, but again be take care of that the device can only support transient current not DC current as high as 15A, the power loss and junction temperature would be very high with the high DC current, please make sure the junction temperature below 150C.

    Nathan
