TPS23754EVM-420: Can we have a updating for input 9~57V

Part Number: TPS23754EVM-420
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS23754, TPS2373, TPS2378, TPS23756, TPS23756EVM, LM5156

Hi TI experts,

Can we use TPS23754 for the application below:

Input 9~57V

output 5V/20W

(Flyback or ACF)

Is there any EVM for reference?

Thank you.

  • Hi Felix,

    Thank for reaching out.

Do you mean 9 - 57V VDD-VSS as the input voltage?

For the input voltage you mentioned here, there would be a concern which is 9-15V input voltage.

VDD within this range will not be able to wave up PWM controller properly (lower than VC UVLO).

One alternative method here is to use PD only controller (TPS2373 or TPS2378 based on your requirement) + a wide input PWM controller.

Please let me know for your questions.

    Best,

    Zhining

  • Hi Zhining,

Correct. It is the 9~57(Vdd-Vss) as the input voltage.

PD function could be ignored or deleted.

We need to make a isolation converter from a power source(9~57V) to 5V/20W.

    Could you suggest EVBs?

    Thank you.

  • Hi Felix,

Thanks for the explanation. And i have some misunderstanding previously. So please ignore the previous reply.

As you mentioned here for 9V to 57V input PWM only feature, you can use TPS23756 with its APD feature.

The EVB you can refer to is: https://www.ti.com/tool/TPS23756EVM.

Adapter port can support 9-57V input and 5V/5A output, which should be able to fulfill your requirement.

But you will need to change the sensing resistor value to enable higher current.

    Best,

    Zhining

  • Hi Zhining,

That seems good for our application.

    If we add 2 conditions:

       1. Low load high efficiency

       2. transient status, input Vmin = 7.5V, output <10W

Is it possible for our application?

    Would you suggest another one?

    Thank you.

    TPS23756:

  • Hi Felix,

    For the conditions you mentioned:

    1. Low load high efficiency

Do you have a specific specs for this condition?

You can refer to the following plot for the efficiency for the TPS23756EVM:

Will these efficiency number satisfy your requirement?

    2.  transient status, input Vmin = 7.5V, output <10W

    How long is this transient?

TPS23756 will have a VC UVLO of 9V.

With 7.5 V Vmin, the VC would not be able to start up.

    Best,

    Zhining

  • Hi Zhining,

The efficiency looks OK to us.

But the UVLO seems not low enough for the Vin 7.5V.

If PD function is not included, could you suggest an other solution?

    Thank you.

  • Hi Felix,

Sorry, I don't support the PWM controller. I couldn't give you a best recommendation for this purpose.

But I would suggest you to start with LM5156. And you can post a thread for LM5156 for the recommendation and confirmation.

    Best,

    Zhining

  • Hi Zhining,

    No problem. I'll do that.

    Thank you so much.
