LM3102: LM3102 Inductor selection

Part Number: LM3102

Hello DC/DC Experts,

we are using the LM3102 for our 3.3V and 5V power supply. According to the datasheet an inductance of up to 25µH is recommended. Is it a good idea, to use a 100µH inductance to reduce the current ripple and the output ripple to a minimum value?

Thanks in advance,

Stephan

  • Hello Stephan,

For COT devices, ripple can be necessary for driver performance, due to the phase delay between current and voltage in capacitors. Your application may work with a 100uH inductor because this device has internal ripple injection to the feedback loop, but this is not something I have data on. It is a good idea to also use an electrolytic capacitor on the output if you are not already, as the ESR can improve the control performance.
