We are designing a circuit to drive bidirectional MOSFETs using the TPSI3050-Q1 driver. This driver requires continuous power on the VDDP pin. Because we are using 50 of these chips on a single board, the total power consumption is too high. We are looking for alternative driver chips or more power-efficient solutions for this high-density design.

We are also working with the driver mentioned in the link below. Please let us know if TI offers any similar driver chips. If such a solution exists, kindly share the details.

Hi Prema,

Thanks for reaching out to our team. What power consumption do you need from the driver? Is it possible to set TPSI3050 to lowest power transfer (Rpxfr = 7.32k), Iq is only 6 mA here.

Please consider TPSI3100, this device is similar to TPSI3050 but will self-regulate its power consumption. When switching, it will go to maximum power transfer, when idle it will go to minimum power transfer. TPSI3100 also has chip enable (CE) pin, when CE is low the device goes into standby mode, Iq = 45 µA. You can consider toggling CE and only asserting high when you need to switch to help reduce power consumption.

I reviewed the TPSI3050 datasheet and noted that VIHEN ranges from a minimum of 2.1 V to a maximum of 3.85 V with respect to VDDP. Is my understanding correct? If not, please correct me.

2.which mode is more power efficient. Two wire or three wire mode?

Yes, VIH_EN = 0.7*VDDP.

Both two-wire and three-wire mode have the same power transfer efficiency, but overall two-wire mode transfers less power and so consumes less power (two-wire mode Iq < three-wire mode Iq). You can check for more details in the device calculation tool's power transfer tab.
