UCC28951: Inquiry on Using UCC28951 IC for Boost Application with MPPT Control

Part Number: UCC28951

I am currently working on a power electronics application and would like to confirm whether the UCC28951 IC can be used in the following boost converter design:

  • Input Voltage (Vin): 70V – 150V
  • Input Current (Iin): 25A
  • Output Voltage (Vout): 420V
  • Output Current (Iout): 5A

Additionally, I would like to know if it is possible to implement an MPPT algorithm by feeding the MCU DAC output into the UCC28951 error amplifier input, in order to adjust the phase shift and duty cycle according to the MPPT algorithm output.

I have seen that an Excel-based design calculator is available for buck applications of this IC. Could you please confirm if a similar design calculator or tool is available for boost applications?

Your guidance on the feasibility of using the UCC28951 in this configuration, and any available design resources, would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi Deepak,

Yes, you can use the UCC28951 for a boost application. The same Excel calculator can also be used for boost designs.

I’m not certain about the MPPT algorithm, but it should be possible to implement it, just that you need to design the compensation carefully.

We do not have a reference design that matches your requirements.

    Regards,

    Anil
