BQ24160 Heating Issue

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24160

Hi,

I am using BQ24160 IC for charging the 3.7V, 4000mA battery. here i am using 5V, 2A adopter for charging. During charging state, the battery consuming the 1.3A@4.2V and

producing lot of heat (40 to 60 degree centigrade). we changed the registers current settings to 4.2V@2.5A. please let me know what changes i need to do.

Regards,

Veera

  • Using a board layout that is similar to the EVM board layout (multiple layer board with at least one internal almost solid ground layer) will help dissipate the heat.  The IC will protect itself and reduce the charge current until the IC cools down (e.g., until battery voltage gets closer to the charger input voltage).  Adding air flow will also help.
