TPS84620 used as LED driver

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS84620

Hi specialists

I ask myselfe if I can use the integrated DC/DC power module TPS84620 as a LED driver for constant current. The idea is to use either the Vadj input or the Sense+ input as a feedback  comming from a sense resistor in series to the LED load. The output voltage will be set for 2.9V with Rset and increase by the parallel FET immediatelly after switch on. The current feedback will close the FET and reduce the output voltage. The current set should be the reference voltage divided by the LED sense resistor.

Could the reference voltage made by a Schottky diode if the accuracy of the current is not so important ?

Thanks for your advices. regards N.

  • Hi Norbert,

It may be possible to configure this device as a constant current source similar to how you describe above. I would need to know more details of your application. I would also want to add in some protection for both the LED and the TPS84xxx device.

Send me an email at jarrigo@ti.com and we can talk offline. We can post our solution after we figure out the details.
