TPS65072 VBATT SWITCH IS NOT ON WHEN CONNECTINFG BATTERY ALONE

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65072

Hi,

Please help me for sorting out the following problem

1)When I connect VBATT alone to the PMIC(tps65072) the VSYS is not connecting to the VBATT. what could be the reason for thid problem?

2)When I am connecting the AC adapter and VBATT simelteneously the VSYS is showing the voltage applied at AC pin, in this case if I remove the AC adapter then the VSYS is showing the voltage applied at VBATT  but if I connect the VBATT alone then the VSYS is not showing the voltage applied at the VBATT.

Thanks & Regards,

M Nagaveeraiah

  • These are common questions which we have covered in the TPS65072 datasheet. Page 25 describes the Power-Path Management and SYS output.

"When TPS6507x is turned off and there is no voltage at AC or USB, the SYS output is disconnected internally from the battery. When TPS6507x is turned on by pulling PB_IN=LOW, the voltage at SYS will ramp with a soft-start."

If you are using the EVM, you will notice in the schematic that POWER_ON is pulled up to SYS. When you attach AC or USB, SYS ramps up pulling power-on high which will turn on the TPS6507x as visible in the state machine on page 35, figure 33.
