sink source buck

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS53315

Hi,

I'm looking for a buck converter that is capable off sinking and sourcing.
The output needs to be adjustable so the controller needs preferable an external reference.

Input:  10V -> 14V
Output: 1V -> 5V

Current Source: 10A
Current Sink:   10A

I found the TPS54620 but the sinking limit is set to 2.3A. and still has an internal reference.
or the TPS40056 but this one doesnt limit the low side fet on time.

Any tips on a potential part number would be great.

  • Hi Peter,

    You may take a look of TPS53315. The positive and negative current limit can meet your requirement.

  • Hi Na,

    Thank you for your quick response. The part is indeed capable of sinking and sourcing with my desired specifications.

    But the output voltage is not adaptable in the way i lake to. I want to change the output voltage with a microcontroller probably with a 16bit DAC.
    A digital pot is not very precise and has a limited range (±20% 1024steps). I probably should have been a little clearer on what i meant with adjustable.

    any more suggestions?

    Regards,

    Peter.

  • Hi Peter,

    One implementation for the adaptable output with fixed reference voltage is by sourcing or sinking current from the external supply to FB pin as shown in the attached file. By changing the external supply voltage, you should be able to adjust the Vout. This is usually used for Vout trim.
