BQ2004E Temperature sensor failing

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ2004E

Hi!

I'm using a BQ2004E and I'd configured the IC to work on mode Mode 1 and VSEL=0, charging a NIMH 9.2V battery. The TM pins configuration is: TM1=0 and TM2=1.

The Temperature sensor was calculated, to make the BQ2004E work on fast charge only between the 0 to 45ºC range.

The problem is that when the fast charge is acting and V_temp gets less than V_HTF, the IC BQ2004E doesn't stop the fast charge and change to top-off state. Does the IC have any interruption to inhibit the temperature sensing? What can I be doing wrong?

  • There are 3 thresholds....LTF, HTF and TCO.  The LTF and HTF are used as limits to start a charge and the LTF and TCO are used once the charging starts.

Thus is the temperature is allowed to go another 2-3 degrees higher termination should occur.  The formula you should use should not used HTF and use TCO.
